In late 2015, I was asked by Chris York of House music record label ‘MVMT’ to create a website for the label. I had previously worked on the branding and product design for the label, and was happy to continue working with the team to create an exciting new website for the business.
The website needed to be just like the previous branding design: minimal, crisp, modern and direct to the point, with automated product updates and a direct-to-fan shop.
Label manager Chris York, who I reported to directly on this project, had this to say about my work:
We needed a website where DJ’s, MVMT fans and artists/producers could find us, bringing our label up to the next level. The website is an ideal place where people can look, listen and purchase easily. Kerri provided an easy to navigate website that works well on all device’s as well as suggestions for the hosting aspect of the website which certainly helped. I would recommend Kerri to others, he was polite, patient and easy to deal with!
MVMT as a record label relies heavily on social media to interact and inform their fans about upcoming product releases and live events. I proposed to create a ‘hub’-like website which would bring together their varied information sources into one central point. I initially created a few different website drafts which brought together their product feed from AMPsuite, Tweets from Twitter, Streams from SoundCloud and Instagram photos.
I chose to use WordPress to power the website along with AMPsuite integration to ensure that content updates would be as simple as possible for the label’s management.
Once a draft design had been approved by the label team, I created the design as a WordPress parent theme called ‘Madeira’, applying additional styles and colour-schemes with a child-theme, ‘MVMT’. The theme includes several customisation-options including an optional social-media links menu and additional footer area which acts as a secondary Widget area to allow the team to customise these areas themselves to best fit their needs.
The label team required a direct-to-fan sales method for their website, so I chose to use the wooCommerce plugin to facilitate sales of physical & digital products. Additionally, the website needed to work with the label’s product-delivery system AMPsuite to ensure that website content is regularly updated when new products are created and sent to retailers.
In early-2015, I was asked by MVMT label owner Mark Lawrence to create a logo for the label to be used by their retail partners.
I created the label a complete label kit, including Bitmap and Vector versions of the logo for use in digital or print.
In addition to the label logo, I was asked to create a retailer-safe version of a mock-up that Mark had created. The template had to be the right size and format required by the label’s retail partners.
I re-designed Mark’s mock-up using Photoshop. I intended each square box within the middle of the graphic to be customisable. I showed the client how to change the text and colour of each element in order to easily-customise the template to create unique graphics for each and every product release.
